Functional Testing

For clients interested in internal healing, it’s recommended to set aside $300–$900 for functional testing. Functional testing provides powerful insight into the underlying imbalances contributing to skin conditions — including gut health, nutrient status, inflammation, and hormonal or metabolic dysfunction.

Without internal labs, we’re often working through a process of trial and error based on educated guesses. While that approach can still lead to progress, it will take longer. We consistently see the best and fastest results in clients who are able to invest in internal labs. We'll discuss which tests are most appropriate for your unique case after our initial session, and create a plan that fits both your goals and your budget. Please note we cannot order tests to NY, NJ or RI.

Bloodwork

Rather than treating symptoms alone, functional blood testing allows us to look deeper — identifying imbalances in hormones, nutrients, blood sugar, thyroid function, and inflammation that may be contributing to what’s showing up on your skin. If you're able to have your primary care doctor order the labs, many of these tests can be covered by insurance — otherwise, our comprehensive panel typically run around $250-$350 cash price.

Common tests we run:

  • Free + Total Testosterone & DHEA-S

  • Estradiol, Progesterone & SHBG

  • Fasting Insulin, Glucose & Hemoglobin A1c

  • Thyroid Panel (TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Antibodies)

  • Vitamin D, Zinc, copper, Vitamin A, B12, Magnesium & Folate

  • Ferritin & Iron Panel

  • hs-CRP

  • CBC & CMP

  • Immunoglobulin E

Comprehensive Stool Analysis

We use a DNA qPCR stool analysis called the GI-MAP (GI Microbial Assay Plus) by Diagnostic Solutions. Addressing gut health is essential for treating the root cause of skin conditions, as the gut directly influences inflammation, immune function, and skin barrier integrity. This includes supporting a balanced microbiome, reducing systemic inflammation, resolving infections and overgrowths, and repairing leaky gut to promote long-term skin health.

Cost: $389 (cash price)

GI-Map includes the following analytes:

  • Bacterial Pathogens

  • Viral Pathogens

  • Parasitic Pathogens

  • Parasitic Protozoa

  • Parasitic Worms

  • Normal Bacterial Flora

  • Opportunistic Bacteria

  • H. pylori with Virulence Factors

  • H. pylori Resistance Genes

  • Fungi/Yeast

  • Digestion

  • Immune Response

  • Inflammation

Organic Acids Test (OAT)

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) by Mosaic Diagnostics provides a comprehensive nutritional and metabolic snapshot of an individual’s overall health. The OAT measures 76 organic acids from one easy to collect urine sample.

Price: $270 (cash price)

OAT Test Components:

  • Intestinal Microbial Overgrowth markers evaluate for candida activity, clostridia bacteria toxins, potential mold exposure, and imbalance in the gut microflora.

  • Oxalate Metabolites provide insight into oxalate levels being generated by organisms within the system or via dietary contributions.

  • Glycolytic Cycle Metabolites and Mitochondrial Markers (Krebs Cycle and Amino Acid Metabolites) evaluate for metabolic efficiency (e.g., use of glucose and amino acids for energy generation) and mitochondrial dysfunction.

  • Neurotransmitter Metabolites evaluate for phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan metabolism which are linked to neurotransmitter status and quinolinic acid production.

  • Pyrimidine Metabolites & Ketone and Fatty Acid Oxidation markers give insight into folate status and cellular turnover, as well as mitochondrial utilization of fatty acids for energy production.

  • Nutritional Markers provide insight into the sufficiency of essential vitamins, antioxidants, and metabolic pathway co-factors.

  • Indicators of Detoxification assess for the presence of oxidative stress via markers of glutathione sufficiency and methylation versus transsulfuration function.

  • Amino Acid Metabolites may suggest functional nutrient need or be reflective of genetic metabolic dysfunction if a consistently, persistently elevated level of a particular analyte is noted.

  • The Mineral Metabolism marker provides insight into dietary intake of phosphate and can give insights into Vitamin D levels.
